An Overview of Newton Hall
Newton Hall is one of the most popular wedding venues in the entire North East of England. It’s also one of my all-time favourite wedding venues to shoot at and one of the first places I would recommend to couples who are searching for a top-tier wedding venue. After recently undergoing a refurbishment to its main ceremony area and adjacent garden, the venue has taken on a new vibe and is likely to attract even more interest for weddings in 2025 and beyond.
Based in the Chathill area, Newton Hall is around an hour’s drive from Newcastle Upon Tyne and just a 5-minute drive to the secluded Northumberland coastline. To get to Newton Hall, all guests will require their own method of transportation as it’s a bit cut off from most public transport. That may be something to consider if lots of your guests don’t drive or are not planning on staying over the night before.
One huge positive of the venue is that Newton Hall offers wedding packages to suit most wedding budgets. Prices for prime summer dates start at £18,995 but if you are prepared to go out of the summer season or even choose a mid-week date, you can start to bring that cost down significantly.
Newton Hall requires a £1000 non-refundable deposit to secure your date.
With Newton Hall being away from the hustle and bustle, you feel as though you’ve been transported to another country. That’s a big draw for a lot of couples as in the summer, Newton Hall becomes the perfect place for a wedding weekend The entire venue and gardens face south so you and your guests get to enjoy the summer sun while sipping cocktails and celebrating in style. Newton Hall even offers the opportunity to have your drinks reception on the local beach!
Newcastle International Airport is just short of an hour away if your wedding guests are flying in or if you are planning on jetting off on your honeymoon the day after.
The atmosphere and staff of Newton Hall are what make this a truly unique and special wedding venue. It’s pretty unassuming from the front and would be easy to drive right past the entrance but once you turn onto the drive, you will immediately see the main hall and magnificent gardens. It is an incredible sight!
I’ve covered everything you need to know about Newton Hall and have gone into deep detail about all of the different features, pros and cons of this popular wedding venue in this complete review and guide.

Newton Hall Complete Video Tour & Walk-around
Join me as I take a walk around the popular North East Wedding Venue Newton Hall. Taking a look at the entire grounds, all of the main function rooms including the bars and toilets. I even give you a full tour of the bedrooms and bathrooms in the main building and courtyard.
The Bedrooms at Newton Hall
There are a total of 21 bedrooms available at Newton Hall, however, 6 of these rooms are situated in the courtyard adjacent to the main building. These rooms are sold on a first-come, first-served basis and can be booked by a wedding party the day before or after yours. Get them booked first to avoid any disappointment.
Prices for all rooms at Newton Hall range from £190 to £250 and include a locally sourced, Full-English & Continental breakfast. The Bridal Suite – Beadnell Bay, is included free of charge with the cost of your wedding.
When you book Newton Hall you’re contracted into paying for a set amount of rooms – which differs depending on the season of your wedding. This means you’ll either need to pay for these rooms or have your guests pay for themselves.
Camp beds are available for children in the larger rooms. They cost £30 per night and include breakfast. Travel cots are available free of charge.
The 6 bedrooms that are available in the courtyard are open to being booked by another wedding party so if you feel like you’ll need the rooms either the night before your wedding or just the night of the wedding itself – I’d advise on booking them asap.
If you feel like 21 bedrooms on-site is not enough, your guests are welcome to stay at Newton Hall’s sister venue, The Joiners Arms. Local Inn and luxury B&B, the bedrooms here offer giant hot tubs and exquisite food & drink. Prices start at £195 per night.
There’s a set of 4 ground-floor apartments available for the bride and her bridesmaids to chill in the night before the wedding and get their hair and makeup done in the morning. The apartments are available from 5 pm the night prior and you don’t need to worry about checking out in the morning, the venue will take care of all of that for you. The cost of the rooms depends on the time you book and availability. Pinarello is in my opinion the best room for the bride to stay in and is priced at £250 per night. Check out the photographs in the gallery!
You can download the entire floor plan and pricing for all 21 bedrooms at Newton Hall here.
A luxury Honeymoon Suite with a copper bathtub is complimentary as part of your booking. This room is situated on the very top floor of Newton Hall and is called Beadnell Bay.
Even though Newton Hall is a Dog-Friendly wedding venue, Pets aren’t allowed to stay in the honeymoon suite or Pinarello so you’ll have to find someone else to babysit on those two nights. Pets are welcome to stay in the basement rooms when accompanied by a guest. These rooms are Cala Deia, Varamon, Boda and Koh Lanta. Pets are also welcome to stay at Embleton Bay in the courtyard.
The Ceremony Area at Newton Hall
Unless you’re planning a wedding on the terrace outside – The Enchanted Chapel is where your wedding ceremony will be held.
Newton Hall’s chapel has very recently undergone a major refurbishment and transformation of its wedding ceremony area.
A new waterfall feature has also been added adjacent to the altar where couples will stand during their wedding ceremony. The added sound of the running water creates a truly enchanting ambience throughout the chapel making a dreamy first impression on guests. I can’t think of any other North East Wedding Venues with a feature like this.
The styling of the Enchanted Chapel is so beautifully done that it does not need any extra decorations to make it look good. If you are looking to add some unique styling to your ceremony, I’d highly recommend checking out venue styling professionals such as Sprig & Thistle and Coco Luminaire.
Please note: Candles and open flames are not permitted anywhere inside Newton Hall. Newton Hall recommends using electric tea lights if you are wanting a candlelight effect during your ceremony or on your tables.
You can also book a musician like John Gatenby or Jessica Avinson to play during your ceremony or even create your own music playlist if you wish to. You’ll need around 10 songs to cover the ceremony and the one you chose for walking down the aisle should be at least 3 minutes long. At our wedding, we had a string quartet playing as our guests arrived and when my wife walked down the aisle. That was unbelievable!
At Newton Hall, your wedding guests should arrive a minimum of 45 minutes before the ceremony. It is a mixture of single-file country roads and the A1 up to Newton Hall so it’s best to set off early. Here are the directions via Google Maps.
On arrival, your guests will be greeted by one of Newton Hall’s Master of Ceremonies who will direct them to the reception and bar area where they can grab a drink with everyone else before the ceremony gets underway.
Ceremony times are always the same at Newton Hall at 1:30 pm. The maximum number of guests you can seat inside the chapel is 150. However, you can have an extra 100 guests in the evening if you wish.
Confetti is allowed but it must be bio-degradable and thrown indoors only.
Important: Before confirming a date with Newton Hall you must check there is a Registrar available to marry you first.
To check availability, you can contact the Northumberland Registrars directly at 01665 602870. For 2021/22 Weddings, there’s a £45 non-refundable booking fee to pay to secure a Registrar. After that, you can expect to pay Northumberland County Council a further £515 for the service and ceremony fees depending on the date you chose.
Newton Hall is Dog-friendly!
One of my favourite things about Newton Hall is that it is a Dog-Friendly wedding venue which means you won’t have to leave your best buddy behind! Your pooch can stay over with you on the night before the wedding and be there for the entire day. It’s worth pointing out that some other wedding venues may say that they are dog friendly so it is always worth checking the individual rules on what is and is not permitted. Fortunately, Newton Hall is fairly relaxed when it comes to furry friends and they can tottle around the building and grounds with no issues.
If you don’t feel like bringing your dog along to your wedding at Newton Hall there are other options available. Wishbone Weddings offer a VIP personalised chaperone service for your dog and will pick up, walk, play, pamper and take care of your dog during your wedding day. They will also drop off your dog at an agreed location. Prices start from just £150 – worth a look!

The Ballroom & Dining Area at Newton Hall
The Garden Suite is the largest function room at Newton Hall and is where you’ll be having your speeches, meal and party in the evening. The room is filled with extra-large, rustic farmhouse-style tables that can be left bare (Most Popular) or dressed in vintage chic or luxury linen. All chairs, crockery, cutlery, glassware, napkins, and table number stands, are included at no extra charge on the day. Any additional decorations such as centrepieces, runners, placemats and favours would need to be sourced by yourself.
If you are planning on bringing your own decorations or hiring styling companies such as Sprig & Thistle, Fleur Couture, The Master Cakesmith and Coco Luminaire create your dream look. They can all get access and start setting up from 10 am on the morning of your wedding.
Please note: Candles and open flames are not permitted anywhere in the venue and Newton Hall recommends using electric tea lights if you are wanting a candlelight effect as part of your decoration.
The turnaround time for setting up the Garden Suite after your ceremony ends is approximately 1 1/2 hours but you won’t see that as you’ll be enjoying your Drinks Reception on the Terrace or over in the main building.
Once you’ve finished your meal it takes another hour or so to clear the tables and set up for the evening entertainment. This is usually the perfect time for you to sneak off and get some more photographs with your wedding photographer before your party begins. Tea and Coffee are served in the two rooms at the front of the main building for your guests and any guests that are staying over will be able to check into their bedrooms.
Food & Drink Options at Newton Hall
Newton Hall offers its couples an amazing array of fabulous feasts and exquisite food options.
Typically, most couples go down the route of a traditional 5-course meal consisting of a soup and starter, a main dish and dessert plus a bit of cheese after but don’t feel like you must do the same. Newton Hall offers other tantalising options such as BBQs, hog roasts, additional courses, popular dishes from all across the world and even extravagant 9-course feasts!
Prices for food at Newton Hall start at £65 per person depending on the package you go for and the meals you choose.
Quick Maths:
If you’re having a 3-course meal, you can expect to pay around £65 per person. Based on 100 wedding guests the total price for food would be £6500
When it comes to choosing your meals we found that giving our guests a few choices meant no one felt left out. At my own wedding, we had 3 options for starters, 3 for main and 3 for dessert. If you or your guests have any special dietary requirements Newton Hall will, of course, accommodate you.
You can download Newton Hall’s Food Menu & Drinks Brochure here.
The average mealtime at Newton Hall is around 2 hours if your guest numbers are below 100. Expect things to take a little longer if you’re having more guests or additional courses.
Please Note: Newton Hall does not allow outside catering or corkage.
Canapés & Cocktails at Newton Hall
There’s a whole host of tasty canapés on offer at Newton Hall. Typically, these are usually served out during the Drinks Reception directly after your wedding ceremony but they can also be offered as nibbles as your guests arrive for the wedding ceremony.
For £10 per person, each guest can enjoy 3 canapés of your choosing. (There are Vegan and Vegetarian options available too) Popular choices are the Thai fish cakes, tempura prawns with sweet chilli dip and the mini cheeseburgers but there are tons of other options available and you can add an extra item for £1.50 per person.

When it comes to cocktails and other drinks the choices are endless. Cocktails such as Espresso Martini and Raspberry Mojito are popular choices as well as a host of local ales, spirits and wines. The bar is open until midnight for your guests to purchase their own drinks.
Newton Hall does have drinks packages available for couples who wish to treat their wedding guests to a signature cocktail or beer during the drinks reception, plus a few glasses of wine with their meal and also a glass of Prosecco or Champagne for celebrating the toasts during the speeches. The drinks are usually served outside on the terrace immediately after the ceremony. Prices for Adult Drinks Packages range from £31.50 to £45 per person.

Newton Hall is the Perfect Wedding Venue to Throw a BIG Party!
Once your meal is over and you’re off getting some beautiful photographs with your photographer – the staff at Newton Hall will begin to set up the Ballroom ready for you to cut your cake, have your first dance and kick off the party in style!
How you choose to host the party is up to you! Newton Hall offers the option to add Magical Mist to dazzle your guests during your first dance, as well as a top DJ and photo booth to kick the party off!
You can see a full list of Newton Hall’s Party Extras here
Don’t feel like you have to stick with the options from the venue. Newton Hall encourages all couples to go wild and make the party and evening entertainment their own.
Music companies such as AMV Live Music offer a huge selection of amazing wedding bands and talented solo artists if you’re looking to entertain. A really good party band I’ve seen tear it up is Hip Hop Hooray but it all depends on what you’re into!
It’s worth noting that there are no disco lights in Newton Hall so you’ll need to use Newton Hall’s recommended DJ or find one of your own that can provide lighting for you.
If you’re looking for a world-class DJ with a fresh new take on the outdated and often cringe-worthy wedding DJ – there is no one I would recommend more than Bride & Groove. They are the best in the business and far away from your usual, cheesy wedding DJ.
Confetti cannons are welcomed inside the Garden Suite at Newton Hall and are a fantastic way to kick off the party and get some great photographs of your first dance. However, like its sister venue, Le Petit Chateau, Newton Hall does charge a cleanup fee of £30 for the privilege.
Fireworks, sparklers and Chinese lanterns are not allowed at Newton Hall due to the rural location, noise restrictions and negative effects it would have on neighbouring livestock.
For couples that are planning on having evening guests that were not a part of the rest of the wedding day. It’s advised to ask them to arrive from 7 pm. Usually, the bride and groom will cut the cake around 7:45 pm so that gives everyone a chance to grab a drink and mix with the other guests before the first dance and evening’s entertainment gets underway.
Newton Hall asks that all evening guests are catered for with food. They offer a buffet-style evening meal for all guests at around 9 pm after an hour of dancing.
Just as with the regular Wedding Breakfast menu – There are tons of epic food choices for the evening meal.
The most popular options I’ve seen at weddings are Fish & Chips and Hog Roasts. They always go down so well with guests and help soak up some of that alcohol so you can all party a little longer!
Click here to download Newton Hall’s Epic Evening Food Menu
Prices start at £14.95 per person and you must cater food for all of your evening guests.
Quick Maths:
Prices for Pizza or Pimped-Up Fries in the evening is £18 per person so for 100 wedding guests the total works out at £1800.
The party officially stops at 12 am when the bar closes and any guests not sleeping at Newton Hall must leave the property. Wedding guests who are staying on-site may enjoy some coffee or a nightcap and there’s nothing stopping you from continuing the party up in your bedroom if you make it that far.
