Venice exceeded all of my expectations! After spending many holidays on the beaches in South East Asia I instantly felt at home jumping on and off the boat network that ferries locals and tourists around the 100+ islands that make up Venice. When planning the trip I was apprehensive as to how user-friendly the Vaperto service would be. I need not be worried. It was a breeze. I stayed on an island called Guidecca. It was just a short hop across the water each morning and I was in San Marco Square, The home of Saint Mark’s Basilica. I was more happy walking the empty streets then queuing with the hordes of tourists, to get inside the many churches and cathedrals on the island. I spent most of my day wandering and capturing anything that caught my attention. One of the highlights for me was not on the main island. It was the Isola di San Michele, an Italian cemetery where the famous Russian composer, Igor Stravinsky lies.
